Utah Department of Workforce Services ranks Plumbing as a…“Five-star occupation having the strongest employment outlook and high wages.”

In Demand: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects job opportunities to be very good for plumbers at least through 2016, especially for those with welding experience.

High Pay: Plumbers are one of the highest paid contractors around. You can expect to make around $20 to $25 an hour after finishing school.  It is not uncommon for Utah Plumbers to make over $50,000.00 or more!

You earn as you learn: 95% of apprentices are employed by a Plumbing Contractor and work while going to school.  Many employers have tuition reimbursement.

Recession Proof: Layoffs are slim, if it does happen, a journeyman can always earn a good living.  Plumbers are needed in every city & town in Utah, the United States, and many parts of the world…You can go anywhere!

College Bound:  I am going to college…not to some trade school.

Becoming a Journeyman Plumber is a 4 year program.  An apprentice must have 8,000 hours of on the job work experience, and 576 approved educational instruction.   Journeyman Plumbers… $42,500.00 Avg. after 4 years of apprenticeship…

I can earn more $$$ by going to college or university.

  • Information Technologies…$29,948 = Associates Degree + OJT
  • Police and Sheriffs Patrol Officers…$34,690 = Long term OJT (> 12 months)
  • Secondary School Teachers… $34,140 = Bachelor’s degree
  • Multi-Media Artists and Animators…$28,360 = Bachelor’s degree
  • Educational, Vocational, & School Counselors $31,100 =  Master’s degree
  • Rehabilitation Counselors… $30,260 = Master’s degree
